Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. At the age of five years old when she left for Oxfordshire and attended the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor at age six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing as well as dancing, and also acting. By the age of ten she had performed and taken as the main character in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000), the movie version to J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was first cast for the first time at the beginning of 1999. Emma was initially discovered as a casting representative by her Oxford drama instructor. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's first appearance on the big screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. The film set records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales as well as being the most-grossing feature in 2001. Film critics praised the film as well as the performance of three leading young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British paper, praised her for her exceptional performance. In the following days, Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her role in the film winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the Feature Film.
